Measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Outbreak of Salmonella Newport

Healthcare Assistants

Doreen Cowell (f)

Doreen is clinically trained to Carry out health assessments on patients. Assists Practice Nurses and Doctors with Blood Pressure, Blood Tests, ECG's, Pregnancy Tests, Weight Monitoring and administration. Doreen is not qualified to comment on results of tests but follows strict protocols and all results will be reviewed by an appropriate member of the clinical staff.

Doreen is currently learning to use the Spirometry machine in the practice and in the future will be able to see patients of her own.

Anne is the practice manager and is responsible for the administration and development of the practice. Anne qualified in Practice Management in September 1995 and has worked with the surgery for 20 years.

Sharon Wilmot
Sharon provides secretarial support to the practice. Referrals to the hospital, letters for patients and medical reports are all dealt with by Sharon. Email to: sharon.wilmot@nhs.net. Sharon has completed the City & Guilds NVQ2 in Business & Admin.

Reception

Priya Mistry
Priya is the reception supervisor and is responsible for the day to day running of the reception area. Any problems you may have, Priya will be please to assist you. Priya completed her NVQ 2 in Team Leading in June 2010. Well Done!

The ladies behind reception will assist you in making appointments to see your doctor, undertake repeat prescription requests and answer numerous questions and offer help and assistance at all times. The reception staff would appreciate patients being on time for their appointment. Please let them know if you need to cancel.

Lorraine joined the practice in 2004. Lorraine has completed the City & Guilds NVQ 2 in customer service in 2007 and likes to assist patients with any queries.

Stephanie joined the surgery in 2007. Stephanie has passed her City & Guilds NVQ 2 in Customer Service in June 2010. Well Done !

Mrs Jacqueline Griffiths (f)
Jacquie joined us in 2009, she has previously worked at another practice in Bolton for 5 years. Jacquie is undertaking the City & Guilds NVQ 2 in customer service.

Miss Georgie Shaw (f)
Georgie joined the surgery in 2009, she previously worked at another surgery for 18 months. Georgie is underatking the City & Guilds NVQ 2 in customer service alongside Jacquie.

Community Midwives

Is responsible for providing your ante-natal care, delivering your baby and caring for you post-natally. They attend the surgery on a Thursday afternoon

Community Nurses

The district nurses provide nursing advice and treatment for patients recently discharged from hospital and also care for the house bound. Tel: 01204 393093

Health Visitors

The practice has an attached Health Visitor who is based at Tonge Fold Clinic. They are available to discuss health problems and run the baby clinic on Tuesday afternoon.
